The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong… With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense read in The Woman in Cabin 10—one that will leave even the most sure-footed reader restlessly uneasy long after the last page is turned.

I read this in 2017 and I'm reviewing it in 2019, so this review will be sketchy.

Ruth Ware's books are easy to read and I've read three to date (The Death of Mrs. Westaway, The Woman in Cabin 10 and In a Dark, Dark Wood).  The Woman in Cabin 10 was Ms. Ware's second novel.

I quite enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down.  I'm not sure I found the plot too believable, but I didn't expect this book to be 100% realistic, so that didn't bother me too much.

This book was compared to an Agatha Christie novel in many reviews and I get it, as the book is east to read and includes unexpected twists and suspense.  This book also includes a peek into a life most of us will never experience (a luxury cruise through the Fjords) and provides a solid cast of secondary characters that are colorful and entertaining.

I would recommend this, but it isn't a keeper.

Surprising ending. Well written and kept me on edge and reading.

I had high hopes for this book.  I thought what could be better than a luxury ship with a missing woman off the coast of Norway - it is like the best of Agatha Christie and Wallander.  Except it is not !  The main character is not interesting at all and quite a downer.  Her lack of confidence is only matched by her heavy drinking and bad luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  The other characters on the ship are either boring or a cliche.  The plot is not bad and in better hands would have been a decent book but it took everything I had to power through to the end (only reason is because I had bought the hardback book).   I recommend skipping this one or at least checking it out of the library so you feel better if you have to put it down.
