Pride & Prejudice (Wordsworth Classics) (Wadsworth Collection)

Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice, which opens with one of the most famous sentences in English Literature, is an ironic novel of manners. In it the garrulous and empty-headed Mrs Bennet has only one aim - that of finding a good match for each of her five daughters. In this she is mocked by her cynical and indolent husband. With its wit, its social precision and, above all, its irresistible heroine, Pride and Prejudice has proved one of the most enduringly popular novels in the English language.

This story actually wasn't that bad. It wasn't fully my cup o' tea but I didn't dislike it. I wasn't a big fan of the characters in this story, except for the main ones obviously. The romance was an enemies to lovers type of story, which I prefer. I found the execution to be a bit boring and the setting to be uninviting. But the overall slow-burn chemistry between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy (what is his first name?) was charming. Overall, I don't regret looking into this one.

Though I am not a big romance novel fan, I rather enjoyed Pride and Prejudice. The dynamics between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy begin strained due to each other's pride and prejudice. Their first time meeting has Mr. Darcy saying that Elizabeth is not good enough for him to dance with and the story becomes a Haters to Lovers book. On some level, I am able to relate to Elizabeth and her independence and not wanting to get married. It is only when they put that aside do they see each other as admirable, and end up falling in love. The book was wonderfully written, and it earns its place with the classics.
