This is the part where I am supposed to shout how there are no words to express the awesomeness of this book. And while this book is without a doubt absolutely amazing and awesome and great and whatever else one might want to call it - I have not enjoyed it as much as I wanted to.

The good Things First?

The complicated threads and stunning cultures and countries and absolutely brilliant characters - yes, the genius, I-am-dying-here characters - all of that is a proof this book was written by a true master of this trade, of writing. This was a beautiful symphony with so many unique voices...

I mean, the moment I saw how LONG this book was, I was excited! This is how much I believe in the author.

Making of a court - a group of people, instead of one or two or few characters is one of my, hands down, most favourite stories. I love having a whole set of various characters that somehow come together to create something infinitely more precious, just like in aCoTaR.

This whole series is ripe with, I dare to say, even more such courts or, at least, with so many great and distinct characters it seems impossible.

I have often marvelled at the strong image I have of everyone in my mind - how the characters were built to such perfection I believe in them and respect them, whatever happens. How it was sweet seeing them when they were vulnerable and weak but still cheering inside, knowing they are all badass ass-kickers.

And of course, Aeling, the beacon that dreamed of a better world and made everyone believe in it too, until they helped her create it. (Just like in aCoTaR).

What Happened?

So I was pretty pumped for this book and I still remember how I felt after the fifth book (every fan knows what I am talking about) so it was not good that I did not manage to get as emotionally involved as I wanted to - was supposed to - should have been!

They were so many great scenes where I should have been shouting my emotions to the world but I was... well, I am not exactly sure what went wrong. On one hand, I think it was the constant worrying. There was so much fighting and dying and war and while it was to be expected it really made me, unconsciously, numb myself against it.

There were some moments were I felt... awe. Like, WAU. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAU. You know what I mean. Where the skill and brilliance left me just floored.

And this one time where I got chills - the real ones, like, shiver and chills and goosebumps.

But the victory should have felt better than it did. Many things should have made me feel more and did not.

Were my expectations clashing with it? I did take a whole day where I was free. Was it being sick and sometimes distracted by that? I am not sure...

But I still know this book deserves five stars.

And maybe one day I can read this again and it will be just as it should have been this day.

For now... can´t wait for more from the author!
