McCarthy is brilliant like Faulkner. He knows the country of which he writes, for in no other way could such culture be conveyed. I only wish I knew more Spanish because I couldn't understand all of the dialogue. A few years ago I tried to start this book but couldn't get into it. This year, I read it in 3 days. Now, I have to finish the trilogy, and I fear that I can not read anybody lesser than McCarthy with any appreciation. He is the ultimate artist! Some of the violent scenes are just horrific, though, in a Stephen King-like way. Those are tough for me, especially in film, but I suppose I'll need to test myself because his writing is too good to let go.
