My Sister, the Serial Killer: A Novel

Oyinkan Braithwaite
"Feverishly hot"--PAULA HAWKINS / "The wittiest and most fun murder party you've ever been invited to."--MARIE CLAIREA short, darkly funny, hand grenade of a novel about a Nigerian woman whose younger sister has a very inconvenient habit of killing her boyfriends"Femi makes three, you know. Three and they label you a serial killer."Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola's third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede's practicality is the sisters' saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her "missing" boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit.Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works. She dreams of the day when he will realize that she's exactly what he needs. But when he asks Korede for Ayoola's phone number, she must reckon with what her sister has become and how far she's willing to go to protect her.Sharp as nails and full of deadpan wit, Oyinkan Braithwaite's deliciously deadly debut is as fun as it is frightening.

I have never appreciated my sister more for not being a murderer.

Entertaining, but I'm not sure why it was such a universal favorite of all the best-of-2018 lists.

Half-baked idea with okay writing. Felt like a first draft, but very little action/consequence by the end of the book. Such an outrageous idea that was really let down by uninspired writing. Interesting to get a perspective from a different cultural perspective, but not enough to make this book worth recommending.

This is the first book in my adult life I can remember reading in 3 days (work got in the way). Her style of writing is addictive and I hope she publishes more of her works. As for the sisters, who needs help more? Very interesting story of family dynamics, love, hope, and dark secrets.

Satirical, humorous and on the surface a light tale with some deep reasonance and meaning, if you choose to see it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and quite literally couldn't put it down. I read it straight through in one day, only stopping when I was forced to do so. It's very current, very hip, very interesting: with two sisters tied to each other and a rather obvious BIG problem for at least one sister, but why would her enabling older sister continue to enable? Read it and see why -- I promise you won't regret it. Fun book.
