Mummy Makes Milk P57

Helen McGonigal, Hilda Kripp-Partridge (Illustrator)
Mummy Makes Milk is a new picture book by Helen McGonigal and Hilda Kripp-Partridge that introduces a little boy called Archie as he waits for his mummy and new baby sister to come home from hospital. Imagine his surprise when Mummy sits down and feeds the baby with her breasts! Archie is full of questions, as most little children are when they first see a baby being breastfed. As Archie's mummy finds answers to all his questions, we join them on their first day at home as a family of four and are given a glimpse into their heart-warming home life through Hilda's beautiful and distinctive illustrations. Both author and illustrator are mums of three and based in the north of England. Their experiences breastfeeding their own children and Helen's experience as a breastfeeding peer supporter make them more than qualified to bring this story to life with just the right level of information for small children. Hilda's skills and talent as a fashion illustrator make her the perfect person to express the close family relationships. The breastfeeding pictures are realistic and her attention to detail is easy to see in the patterns and designs used on clothing and in the home. The book makes a lovely gift for any child experiencing gaining a new sibling and is also a great educational resource for children's centres, school libraries, nurseries, maternity units and health visitors.
