Five Feet Apart

Rachael Lippincott, Mikki Daughtry (As told to), Tobias Iaconis (As told to)
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson in March 2019! In this moving story that's perfect for fans of John Green's The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication--they can't get within a few feet of each other without risking their lives. Can you love someone you can never touch? Stella Grant likes to be in control--even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions. The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn't care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he'll turn eighteen and then he'll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals. Will's exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn't feel like safety. It feels like punishment. What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

Will The Sickness Stop Them?

***½

The value of love can really change the world. The novel, Five Feet Apart, written by the team of Mikki Daughtry, Rachael Lippincott, and Tobias Iaconis, is an astonishing and educational novel. Rachael Lippincott took writing classes at the Univerity of Pittsburgh and she got a call with an opportunity to turn this movie into a novel with the help of two others. The authors released this book and it was on the New York bestseller list after its first week on sale! It was published by Simon & Schuster on March 15, 2019. This book is not about another ordinary love story, but one that is memorable, inspirational, and intriguing. This is a terrific book for reluctant readers. This book was different from others. I continued to want to read this book and even go out of my way to read it at home. The book was 320 pages but this read felt short and easy. The two main characters, Will and Stella, continue to fight their individual battles while they value their love for each other. This novel is very memorable because of the dedication and perseverance the main characters have. They do not give up on each other or themselves no matter the circumstance. They are willing to give their life for each other which reveals huge emotion.

I would rate this book a 3 ½ out of 4. It was a great book, but I feel as if nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement. I think there could always be more action to keep the reader even more engaged. I have read several books in the last two months and this was by far my favorite. It stood out to me because of the unique character traits each character has. Will, one who fights B. Cepacia has a strong love for Stella who is a cystic fibrosis patient. Throughout the novel, you begin to learn a concept that they cannot be closer than 5 feet apart because of their sickness. Otherwise, they could die. The book is based on a true story which makes it that much more intriguing to continue to read. When you know that what you are reading has happened before, it is easier to put yourself in the characters’ shoes. It makes you realize what people are fighting for every day and makes you appreciate what you have.

In conclusion, this book is a great read. I recommend it to those that have difficulty trying to stick with and finish a book. I also recommend it to those who like love stories because this is all about the love of two young adults fighting battles. This is better than any other love story because they are both fighting illnesses while they fight for the love they gained for each other. It is such an inspirational book that may have you in tears by the end. It shows to never give up on something or someone. Through this novel, they risk their lives for each other and it is so intriguing to continue to read what happens next. I would highly recommend this book to almost anyone. Grab a copy and begin your journey into a new love story!
