Gavin De Becker

Shattering the myth that most violent acts are unpredictable, de Becker, whose clients include top Hollywood stars and government agencies, offers specific ways to protect yourself and those you love, including: how to act when approached by a stranger; when you should fear someone close to you; what to do if you are being stalked; how to uncover the source of anonymous threats or phone calls; the biggest mistake you can make with a threatening person; and more. You can learn to spot the danger signals others miss. It might just save your life.

Okay, really, I'm not sure than anything can possibly protect any of us from violence. But I do recognize that there are maybe some things that can help. Unlike the general advice aimed at women to restrict their movements and choices, de Becker's advice is more simple and non-sexist: trust your gut. Yeah, alright, that's fine with strangers, maybe, but not so helpful when the threat is someone you live with. But it's better than nothing.
