Godly Play The Synagogue and the Upper Room storytelling resource

Godly Play storytelling resources. The text of the story can be found in The complete guide to Godly Play volume 4 by Jerome W Berryman. Includes model of a synagogue, jar with a scroll, lectern, model of the Upper Room, table, figure of Jesus, instruction sheet. As the thirteenth Lesson in Volume 4 The Complete Guide to Godly Play, it can be presented at any time, but is often presented after Easter. The first part of the presentation evokes the Liturgy of the word, which the Christian church developed from the readings of the Jewish synagogue. The second part of the presentation evokes the Liturgy of the Table, which Jesus instituted during the Last Supper in the Upper Room. The Synagogue and Upper Room are joined together to form a model of Christian worship, the joining of the Old and New Testaments, and much more.

This Godly Play story links the themes of church, Last Supper and communion with the synagogue and the Old Testament. The building of the synagogue becomes a church building by joining the upper room to it.
Some practice is required to join the two buildings together but it is well worth it.
