Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3)

J. K. Rowling
Harry Potter has to sneak back to Hogwarts, after accidentally inflating his horrible Aunt Petunia. But once there everyone is whispering about a prizoner who has escaped from the famous wizard prizon, Azkaban. His name is Sirius Black, and as a follower of Lord Voldemort he is determined to track Harry Potter down -- even if it means laying siege to the very walls of Hogwarts!

This is my favorite of the series, but I was puzzled (until reading again, looking at it from a Thematic point of view and at how foreshadowing works -April, 12019 HE): why, on P. 1, does she include the HW assignment on Gwendoline the Fant. on the inefficacity of 14th cent. burnings and the 47 intentional catches? I do not recall that information used later on in the series, and am wondering if, aside from an interesting possible social commentary, which is good, what other function, from the novel or series pov, that paragraph served? I would have been afraid to keep such a long bit in my own novel.

Maybe my least favorite of the series? Not that it suffers all that much for that since I just love the whole series as one wonderful whole.
