Witches, The

Roald Dahl
This is not a fairy tale. This is about real witches. Grandmamma loves to tell about witches. Real witches are the most dangerous of all living creatures on earth. There's nothing they hate so much as children, and they work all kinds of terrifying spells to get rid of them. Her grandson listens closely to Grandmamma's stories—but nothing can prepare him for the day he comes face-to-face with The Grand High Witch herself!

Incredibly funny. witty and loads of fun. The witches brings the reader to a world of magic where witches get rid of smelly rotten little children. The catch, is that all chidren are smelly to withces. Dahl uses an incredible amount of onomatopoeia making the story, more appealing and hilarious to the reader. This can be used in the classroom to help teach kids of descriptive writing and onomatopoeia and the importance of desriptive words and phrases to help create an image in the readers head.

This is a great book for elementary as a read aloud or as an indepentant book for the appropratie level. It is definatly a must read for readers and it has a lot of aspects that could grasp and be attention grabing to every student.
