**May contain spoilers**  This was such a great series! It was sort of like a game of “The Bachelor” except PG. It also reminded me a lot of Esther’s story from the Bible.  The selection is a contest where the Prince chooses his wife from the common people. This is supposed to placate the commoners and prevent uprisings. Well we all know that, of course, did not work. There are rebels in this story. Good rebels and bad rebels.  Anyway, America Singer (our leading lady) was in love with a boy, Aspen, in a lower caste than she, but when the Selection came about he told her to enroll in the Selection even though she didn’t want to.  Aspen did not feel he was worthy of her so he wanted her to take the chance to be better and not live with the regret of what could have been. And if she wasn’t selected then, no harm done. Well we all know where this was going; of course she was selected. So off to the palace America goes as well as 34 other girls from all over the country. This country is the new country after North America was conquered. So the new country, Illea, consists of 35 provinces that cover the old Canada, USA, Mexico, and Central America. These people live by castes. Each caste has designated job duties. Such as a Two is usually like models and actors,  Three’s are teachers, Five’s are artists or musicians, either the Sixes or Sevens are maids and servants. I can’t remember what the other castes are. Eights are the lower than low people; usually jobless and homeless. All the girls who are lower than a Three automatically become a Three for the rest of their life just for being chosen for the Selection and the one chosen to be the new future Queen of course becomes a One.  Anyway, America is a Five and Aspen is a Six. Whatever caste the man is will be your new caste if you marry him. So Aspen did not want to demote America even though he loved her so he pushed her to try for the Selection. This story makes you like some of the other girls but of course we don’t want them to become the princess, LOL.  Or I didn’t anyway! I liked the other girls but I was team America the whole way! I don’t want to give too many details away. I highly recommend this book series!!
