Just One Day

Gayle Forman
From the New York Times bestselling author of If I Stay Allyson Healey's life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.   A book about love, heartbreak, travel, identity, and the “accidents” of fate, Just One Day shows us how sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost. . . and how often the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.   The first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!

I don't know if I have fully expressed my love for Gayle Forman. I love her writing style, I love her books. I have a previous review for If I stay and Where She Went, which are also written by Gayle Forman. I just, the way she makes you feel about these characters is incredible. You get attached to them and you laugh at their jokes, smile at their fortunes, and cry at their sorrow. That being said, Just One Day was different for me.

I had REALLY mixed feelings about it. I both like it and hate it. The writing style is the only thing I DO like. It's really poetic and vivid which isn't a surprised because I know Gayle Forman is good author. However I hated the plot. I felt it was so cliche and stupid. I even hated the characters. Mainly Allyson, she is very annoying, dumb and juvenile. I really didn't like the plot either. It was very juvenile and cliche. I couldn't stand it. It took me almost 2 weeks to finish it because I did not want to pick it up at all. It didn't interest me one bit. I will continue to read Gayle Forman because I'm in love with her writing style. If it wasn't Gayle Forman who wrote this I will probably hate it because her writing style was her saving grace.
