In between misadventures, he manages to compare battle scars with Lyndon Johnson, discover the truth about Richard Nixon, and survive the ups and downs of remaining true to his only love, Jenny, on an extraordinary journey through three decades of the American cultural landscape. I was hoping that I would like this one because it got such high praise and seems to be a classic amongst its own cult following. But sadly, it didn't do it for me. Too much going on at once and too many unbelievable things that occur to this one man during his lifetime. Also, the majority of the main character's life was during a time period that I'm not really a fan of. The sixties and the seventies weren't part of an era that I really cared for so reading about those time periods really weren't my cup o' tea. The main character, Forrest was also someone that I wasn't really fond of. He was okay overall but not the best character for me to relate to. And don't even get me started on the character of Jenny. What a very troubled woman. This one was a no from me.
