Stephen King
A modern classic, Carrie introduced a distinctive new voice in American fiction -- Stephen King. I liked this book, but I wasn't wowed by it. I had heard such great things about it, but after reading it I was left thinking, meh.

I want to say that my impression might be tainted a bit by how poor I found the last book to be but let me review Carrie...
What a book!! I so enjoyed this. As I expect from the author, it was gritty and unforgiving. I liked the alternating POV between third person narrative of the past and retrospective research of the same. I knew the basic story before I started reading it, having watched the original film adaptation years ago. I don't remember the movie well but I believe a person should absolutely read this book instead of, or at least in addition to, watching either movie (I did not watch the remake). Certain aspects of the story including the depth of the characters' internal conflicts and the entire alternating POV are lost in cinematic translation.
I don't feel like this was horror at all. The story is sci-fi what if. So far, I've read The Dark Tower books and this. I expect as I continue reading King's books I will start to be freaked out or terrified by the weirdness/horror instead of fascinated by the possibilities he dreams up.
This isn't a long book. I read it in a couple of hours. Give it a shot. :)
