Excellent historical fiction and fantasy blend. Lots of characters, but they all come into play again and again - good intertwining of stories. Did feel that there were some weak spots in character development, mainly with Michael and his death, and Sophia Winston - why no real resolution with the Jinni? Would compare to The Night Circus (in fantastical elements), Chavalier and Klay (for New York). Author used the word "chagrin" 4 times in 30 pages - pet peeve! Also, wonder why there may be a sequel?

I normally don’t enjoy stories with so many POVs, but I loved this book. All the POVs flowed so well together. And all the little background stories that gave so much needed information were also written in very well. I liked that the background stories weren’t told all at once, but in little portions. It definitely gave the story an element of suspense. The world building was amazing and the character development was done very well. I liked the development of all the characters, but especially Chava and Ahmad.
