Well, that was painful but mostly it's the pain of resonance with my own experiences. As endings to books and series go this wasn't bad.
Plotwise, this book was not full of what I expected to read. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. It was interesting and posed some disturbing social/class issues. In a book about factions that shouldn't be surprising but, because of how it was addressed in this final installment, somehow was.
On the down side, several people did extremely stupid things, the consequences of which seemed blunted or disproportionate.
If you've read the first two it would be silly to not read this one. If you haven't read the first two, read them first. This does not stand alone.

I reread insurgent before reading Allegiant. At first I lost interest because I did not see where the story line was going. I was engrossed until the last page. Tears came as I read the last chapters. A couple of things: the main characters evolved and were well written, there is a lot of irony with Tris being dauntless and abnegation, the themes were well thought out and came screeching to a point when Tris and her friends were wondering if they should manipulate things or let the Bureau continue their work, are we genetically predisposed to certain actions and should we manipulate genetics to fix it?

Too much government control and people suffer. Loved this whole series and still wonder what I would have chosen at "the Choosing Ceremony"
I personally was seriously enjoying the series ... right up until about half way through this book when it just started feeling like I was trying to read scrambled eggs.
The Four that I had grown attached to just seems to have flipped his whole personality. Meanwhile, the Tris that I had traveled with through her journey grew stronger and more admirable ... for most of the book anyways.
It almost felt too forced with all the back and forth and twists and turns.I get that there was some sort of statement to be made in the end, but I really just didn't feel it and quite honestly I didn't particularly like it. Maybe one day I'll read it again and things will be different. But for the moment, I'm just a bit sad and confused.
