Was this story frightening and scary? Nope. Was this book based on a true story? Only partially. Were the characters likeable? No. Was this a book you could have done without? Yes.

So here's my take on this book. When people say that this book is based on a true story. You have to take that with a grain of salt. First off, was there a brutal killing that happened there and the house homed two different families? Yes. Was there any paranormal activity that caused hauntings with the second family and drove them from their home that was actually verified? No way. The second family made the whole story up about the hauntings and that was verified. Due to this being a piece of literature that was written back in the late 1970's, the writing style and execution is not to my liking. It is bland and slow. Technically not the author's full fault as it was part of that era. I was really wishing for something more true to life and more disturbing. Now, if this was being marketed as a work of FICTION with hints of real life events then I would have considered a higher rating. But because this author took a tragic real life event that devastated a family, a whole town and shocked the world then I have no sympathy at all for them. I don't agree with someone trying to make money off of someone else's tragedies. So for me this one was a thanks but no thanks type of scenario!
